E-assessment

E-assessment refers to the use of digital tools and technologies to assess students’ knowledge, skills, and competencies against the curricula and exit level outcomes of the respective qualification. E-assessment can be applied to various types of evaluations, including tests, quizzes, assignments, and exams. It offers benefits such as real-time feedback, automated grading, and increased accessibility, while complying with the required distribution of cognitive skills of the particular assessment strategy for the qualification/part qualification/ skills programme.

Key features of e-assessment include:

  • Online exams and quizzes: Tests taken via an internet platform, which may include multiple-choice questions, short answers, or essays.
  • Automated grading: Many e-assessments allow for instant feedback through automated scoring systems.
  • Formative assessments: Regular check-ins or smaller assignments to assess ongoing learning and understanding, typically used to guide future lessons or activities.
  • Summative assessments: Large-scale evaluations (like final exams) aimed at measuring the cumulative learning and competence of learners.

Overall, e-assessment enables more streamlined, efficient, and diverse ways of evaluating learning outcomes, especially in remote or hybrid education environments.

Both e-learning and e-assessment have become integral to the educational landscape, especially in the context of remote and online education. They support flexible learning and provide valuable tools for facilitators, assessors, moderators and learners alike.
